Photography has always been a hobby of mine… something personal. It was always just part of what I did when I explored this big beautiful backyard called Saskatchewan. Because I was too cheap to go out and buy a quality DSLR with all the features, I would carry my point and shoot with me – a Panasonic Lumix of some kind – and, being my own worst critic, I would rarely share the photographs I made.
It was encouragement from my wife, Cheryl, and the quality of the camera in my smartphone at the time, the Nokia Lumia 1020, that prompted me to share a few of my creations on Facebook and Twitter. The strong, positive reactions and support from family, friends, and followers prompted me to share a lot more of that work.
I joined Instagram in 2013 to become inspired… to see what others were posting and sharing with the world. Doing so exposed me to many incredible artists and individuals from all walks of life. It made me reconsider how I went about sharing my work. Today, instead of storing my work in some cloud somewhere, where it will utimately succumb to archive oblivion, I want the photos I make to be seen, enjoyed, shared, and critiqued.
And so marked the beginning of Darren Sproat Photography. Don’t hesitate to drop by and leave a comment. If you’re so inclined, engage with me on the social media networks I frequent by using the Social Media links on this page.
